More Than Just a Summer Camp: Why Kids Thrive at Music Theatre Philly

Summer is in full swing here at MTP. 

School is out, schedules slow down (at least a little), and children suddenly have the freedom to explore new interests, make new friends, and discover what they're capable of. At Music Theatre Philly, we believe summer should be filled with creativity, laughter, and opportunities for every child to shine.

What Does a Day at Camp Look Like?

Every day at Music Theatre Philly is thoughtfully balanced to keep campers engaged, active, and having fun. Camp begins with a warm welcome and community-building activities before students come together to learn the camp's production numbers. Throughout the day, campers rotate through dance, vocal music, acting, and script work with our team of professional teaching artists, allowing them to develop skills in every aspect of musical theatre.

Of course, we know that kids need breaks, too! Each day includes snack time, lunch, camp-wide games, and opportunities for free play and creative activities. We intentionally alternate high-energy classes with quieter moments like script work and cool-down activities so students stay energized and excited from start to finish.

We end each day by coming back together as a camp family to celebrate our "Students of the Day," reflect on what we've learned, and get excited for what's ahead. Whether your child is rehearsing choreography, playing a theater game, making new friends during lunch, or proudly sharing what they accomplished that day, every moment is designed to help them grow as both performers and people.

A Place Where Everyone Belongs

Walking into a new camp can be intimidating. Whether a child has spent years at Music Theatre Philly or has never stepped in our building, those first few minutes can feel overwhelming. Which is why creating a welcoming community is always our first priority.

Our teaching artists are experts at helping campers feel comfortable, encouraging friendships, and creating an environment where every child feels seen and valued. Within just a day, it's common to see students who arrived knowing no one laughing together during lunch, helping each other learn choreography, and cheering each other on during rehearsals.

Those friendships often last long after the final curtain call.

Building Confidence That Lasts

Theater teaches so much more than singing, dancing, and acting.

Every day, campers practice speaking confidently, working as part of a team, solving creative problems, and stepping outside their comfort zones. They learn to take risks, make mistakes, and celebrate each other's successes.

Our camps are designed to give students a well-rounded performing arts experience.

One of the things we love most about Music Theatre Philly is that there isn't just one type of student who succeeds here. Some campers arrive already dreaming of Broadway. Others simply love to sing in the car, dance around their living room, or make up stories with friends.

Some are naturally outgoing. Others take a little longer to find their voice. We make room for all of them.

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy of performing arts in a supportive, inclusive environment where growth is celebrated just as much as talent.
